To ensure your planned work will be accepted, please read over the following guidance note before continuing with your request:

Garden Huts & Greenhouses

Size and location

  1. A hut or greenhouse should not have a floor area larger than 30m2.

  2. It should be no more than 2.5 metres in height.

  3. A second hut, should you wish to build one, shall be no more than half the size of the first.

  4. The hut must be at least half a metre from any boundary fence/wall.

  5. Huts and greenhouses may not be erected in communal areas.

Construction and maintenance

  1. Huts should be constructed using suitable materials agreed with VHS Property Services before work begins.

  2. The hut or greenhouse must be kept in good condition at all times.

  3. Maintenance of the hut or greenhouse is the tenant's sole responsibility.

Lighting and power

  1. If you intend to provide light or power to the hut, any connection to the domestic power supply must be installed by a qualified electrician and to part P of the Building Regulations. We will arrange for a qualified electrical engineer to inspect the work and provide a test certificate. The tenant will pay for this work.

Moving out

  1. Upon termination of the tenancy, the tenant must remove any hut or greenhouse and the ground restored. Any fixings to the property walls should be repaired and made good.
